Carlton River, Tasmania

This is a smallish oil painting, that I sat outside on the beach at Carlton Beach, with the Carlton River and Carlton Bluff in front of me, and I blocked it in, then finished it off at home. We live over the bluff - and just there across the river is a spot that Tony fishes from.

I did paint under difficulties as I had Joey (as usual) sitting on my lap.

Cradle Mountain, Tasmania

This is a mixed media work of Cradle Mountain, in the highlands of Tasmania. It is a very popular spot for tourists, and this image sells well - I have done heaps of them! We do have the reds also, as in autumn the leaves of the fagus (maple, I think) go all the reds and oranges.

Murray River painting

This is a mixed media work, that is screenprint and collage, on canvas, of a view of the Murray River, South Australia, from Headings Lookout.

This IS the amazing colour of the cliffs.

Medicine woman

This is an oil painting that I did some time ago, but I have cropped out the background, which has made it a much better painting.

It was based on a meditation I had, where I was sitting in my forest dell sacred clearing, with animals and my inner guide coming to me.

Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania

This is a mixed media work of the Tasman Peninsula, which is between where I live at Primrose Sands, and the infamous Port Arthur, where early convicts were sent from England.

There is a very rugged rocky coastline, yet most beautiful scenery.

Eaglehawk; Neck, Tasmania

This is a very textural mixed media work, called Eaglehawk Neck, which is on the Tasman Highway, on the way to Port Arthur.

It is 45 x 66 cm unframed (this is without the matt around it, which is a 10cm matt in all my works) and I have $250 on it, plus postage.

The Kimberley

The Kimberley, is a mixed media work that is 44 cm x 28 cm, and $110 plus postage.

I feel it gives the impression and atmosphere of the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

I add gem stones and bits of red ochre rock and outback crystal etc into my works, which all add energy to them.

This one also has silk serecen fibre in it and a small silk cocoon.

We are One with the Land

We are one with the land, or a similar name - haven't worked it out yet!

This is another one of my ancient landscapes, with women being part of the landscape.

At the moment I haven't got the measurements for this, but it is quite a large one that I would put $220 unframed plus postage on.

In some of my works, the foreground texture is a fibre that was made in Tonga in 1955 when Queen Elizabeth visited, and they made long floor coverings for her to walk on. This is the flax matting that I have used! Maybe the Queen has walked on my picture!!

Mixed media work, Warrambungles

The Warrambungles is a very ancient range of mountains in Northern NSW, Australia. This work has been done on card in mixed media, with textural papers, gemstones and feathers. It is 52cm x 35 cm and $150 unframed, plus postage.

Artist Liz Francis

A colourist at heart, my work is most oils and mixed media works, which adds texture and dimension to the painting.

I like to portray the energy and life force of the land, as well as it's beauty and ruggedness. I try and show the ancientness of the land, of how it has been here for time immemorial and will always be here, long after we have moved on.

My oil paintings are in an impressionist style, while my screen printing, which is the base for my mixed media works, I choose to block out the paper, rather than the screen, and in so doing produce one-off prints, rather than a limited edition of the same image.

I then collage calico or canvas strips and hand made paper, and screen print again, then add pieces of metail, feathers, gemstones, shells etc, which add texture as well as depth to my work.

Above all, I like to try new methods and materials, experimenting and extending myself that little bit further, challenging myself and drawing out the inner creativity within.

I was born in England, lived in Western Australia, Queensland and New Zealand, before settling in Primrose Sands in Tasmania.

I have been painting for over 20 years now, having completed an Associate Diploma of Art and Crafts, majoring in Printmaking.

For 12 years I was the arts writer for the local newspaper on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

I have had nine solo exhibitions since 1993, and been part of many group exhibitions in Tasmania, Sydney and one in Japan. I was also selected by Gallery Two from Launceston, to display work at the Australian Contemporary Art Fair in Melbourne one year, where I sold one of my art works.

I have also won many awards for my work since 1994, including winning the Art Society of Tasmania's annual exhibition in 2005, and my work has been collected by national and oversees buyers.
