West Coast of Tasmania

This is of a lake on the West Coast of Tasmania.
All my mixed media again.

Mt Wellington , Tasmania

Mt Wellington, in mixed media.
I screenprint the backgrounds, then add paper, and print over, or use porcelain paint and gutta, then add gemstones and feathers.]
These latest works are now in matts, wrapped in cellophane and will go for sale at the Quoll Artists Gallery in Hobart.

The Huon Valley

Another mixed media work of the Huon Valley, south of Hobart, Tasmania.

Mt Wellington, Tasmania

Mixed media works of Mt Wellington, which sits above Hobart in Tasmania.

Glastonbury Abbey

The mists of Glastonbury Abbey, and sailing away over the lake
Oils -another Celtic Goddess image.

Grace O'Malley

This is my depiction of Grainne Ni Mhaille or Grace O'Malley, in oil paints. Grace was an Irish pirate from Galway in the 16th Century. She led a band of 200 sea raiders, was twice widowed, twice imprisoned, fought her enemies, both in Ireland and England for her rights, condemned for piracy, and finally pardoned in London by Queen Elizabeth 1.

Egyptian paintings by Liz Francis

Here is another one, using Egyptian imagery. Was heaps of fun, and isn't that what its all about!

Egyptian paintings - mixed media

This is another small work, that I particularly like, of a suggestion of a Pharoah's lost tomb!

This is the one of Hatshepsut. I lost it in the previous entry!!

Egyptian paintings

I am doing a series of Egyptian mixed media works to sell, mostly small ones. So here are a couple of them. One of them is of Hatshepsut, the female Pharoah, and I have written the hieroglyphics in the columns, with the Cartouche being her name.

ACHTAN, Goddess who was the mother of ancient Irish king
Cormac mac Airt. Her father was druid Olc Acha, and she was
offerred to the High King, Art mac Cuinn to sleep with and so
Cormac was born. It seems a contrast to me, having a druid
for a father, and then she was given so as to become pregnant!
This is an oil painting.
This rather skew-wiff photo (!) is called Ancient Forest, in my mixed media style. I have also collaged some spirals in to it, so very Celtic.
I will put it in Quoll, but also may keep it for our Ireland to Island exhibition some time.

BUYING ART BY LIZ FRANCIS

MY ART WORK IS FOR SALE
If anyone is interested in buying my art that I have displayed on this blog site, or would like to see more images of my work, please leave a message in the comments section with your email address and I will get in touch with you, and let you know the size of works, and the prices.
Thank you for viewing my work,
Liz Francis

Oil on canvas, en plein air painting, and finished off at home. It is on the road to Primrose Sands, where I live, looking over the bay towards Mt Wellington. Although it is middle of winter (yeah, right!) we have had little rain, so the paddocks are all still very dry and yellowy green in colour.

It was a beautiful day, yet had rain clouds threatening to come over, when I went to Marion Bay, South East of Tasmania - about 1/2 hour from where I live. This is a rivulet that runs out to the beach and the sea.
It was roughly blocked in while I sat on the sand, then I drove home and finished it off. It is oil on canvas.

Well, here is another life drawing in charcoal. This model is Angela, the previous one was Deidree. Although I don't sell these works - they are all done on cheap news paper, but I am planning on using some of the stances and shapes in Celtic Goddess paintings that I am about to start on. They won't be nude of course, but......

I thought it was time you saw a bit of charcoal drawing of nudes!!
This is quite a quick and rough one - well, aren't all of mine like that? I drew this at life drawing last Thursday, July 8, 2010.
This work is an oil and collage of the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. I want to use celtic knots and collage images as well as a basic painting in this series of works that I am starting to do. I plan on having an exhibition called From Ireland to Island with my friend Sue Banks.

This is another mixed media work, on snowcard of Mt Ninderry which is on the Sunshine Coast between Maroochydore and Noosa. It is taken from a photo along the Yandina/Bli Bli Road. Along here there are paddocks of sugar cane and pineapples, and everything is very lush and green.

This is a large mixed media work on stretched canvas, that I did for the Adelaide Skin and Eye Clinic. It is 120cm x 90 cm.

Carlton River, Tasmania

This is a smallish oil painting, that I sat outside on the beach at Carlton Beach, with the Carlton River and Carlton Bluff in front of me, and I blocked it in, then finished it off at home. We live over the bluff - and just there across the river is a spot that Tony fishes from.
I did paint under difficulties as I had Joey (as usual) sitting on my lap.

Cradle Mountain, Tasmania

This is a mixed media work of Cradle Mountain, in the highlands of Tasmania. It is a very popular spot for tourists, and this image sells well - I have done heaps of them! We do have the reds also, as in autumn the leaves of the fagus (maple, I think) go all the reds and oranges.

Murray River painting

This is a mixed media work, that is screenprint and collage, on canvas, of a view of the Murray River, South Australia, from Headings Lookout.
This IS the amazing colour of the cliffs.

Medicine woman

This is an oil painting that I did some time ago, but I have cropped out the background, which has made it a much better painting.
It was based on a meditation I had, where I was sitting in my forest dell sacred clearing, with animals and my inner guide coming to me.

Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania

This is a mixed media work of the Tasman Peninsula, which is between where I live at Primrose Sands, and the infamous Port Arthur, where early convicts were sent from England.
There is a very rugged rocky coastline, yet most beautiful scenery.
Price of work on application.

Eaglehawk; Neck, Tasmania

This is a very textural mixed media work, called Eaglehawk Neck, which is on the Tasman Highway, on the way to Port Arthur.
It is 45 x 66 cm unframed (this is without the matt around it, which is a 10cm matt in all my works) and I have $250 on it, plus postage.
SOLD

The Kimberley

The Kimberley, is a mixed media work that is 44 cm x 28 cm, and $110 plus postage.
I feel it gives the impression and atmosphere of the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
I add gem stones and bits of red ochre rock and outback crystal etc into my works, which all add energy to them.
This one also has silk serecen fibre in it and a small silk cocoon.
Works can be ordered from me on lizart@skymesh.com.au, or you can email me to see more of my work.

We are One with the Land

We are one with the land, or a similar name - haven't worked it out yet!
This is another one of my ancient landscapes, with women being part of the landscape.
At the moment I haven't got the measurements for this, but it is quite a large one that I would put $220 unframed plus postage on.
In some of my works, the foreground texture is a fibre that was made in Tonga in 1955 when Queen Elizabeth visited, and they made long floor coverings for her to walk on. This is the flax matting that I have used! Maybe the Queen has walked on my picture!!

Mixed media work, Warrambungles

The Warrambungles is a very ancient range of mountains in Northern NSW, Australia. This work has been done on card in mixed media, with textural papers, gemstones and feathers. It is 52cm x 35 cm and $150 unframed, plus postage.

My email if you want to buy any of these is lizart@skymesh.com.au

Artist Liz Francis

A colourist at heart, my work is most oils and mixed media works, which adds texture and dimension to the painting.

I like to portray the energy and life force of the land, as well as it's beauty and ruggedness. I try and show the ancientness of the land, of how it has been here for time immemorial and will always be here, long after we have moved on.

My oil paintings are in an impressionist style, while my screen printing, which is the base for my mixed media works, I choose to block out the paper, rather than the screen, and in so doing produce one-off prints, rather than a limited edition of the same image.

I then collage calico or canvas strips and hand made paper, and screen print again, then add pieces of metail, feathers, gemstones, shells etc, which add texture as well as depth to my work.

Above all, I like to try new methods and materials, experimenting and extending myself that little bit further, challenging myself and drawing out the inner creativity within.

I was born in England, lived in Western Australia, Queensland and New Zealand, before settling in Primrose Sands in Tasmania.

I have been painting for over 20 years now, having completed an Associate Diploma of Art and Crafts, majoring in Printmaking.

For 12 years I was the arts writer for the local newspaper on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

I have had nine solo exhibitions since 1993, and been part of many group exhibitions in Tasmania, Sydney and one in Japan. I was also selected by Gallery Two from Launceston, to display work at the Australian Contemporary Art Fair in Melbourne one year, where I sold one of my art works.

I have also won many awards for my work since 1994, including winning the Art Society of Tasmania's annual exhibition in 2005, and my work has been collected by national and oversees buyers.

Examples of my work can be seen at the Stirling Fine Art Gallery, Perth, W.A. Argyle Gallery, The Rocks, Sydney, Quoll Artists Gallery Inc, St. Imre Vineyard, Dover, Hand Made and Designed Gallery, Sorell,m and Creative Paper, Burnie, Tasmania.
This image above is of Mt Ninderry, a mountain on the Sunshine Coast. It is mixed media on canvas, 90cm x 60 cm, and costs $480 plus postage.
